Careers
Careers at the Skills Development Centre are fulfilling and interesting. We work with people of all abilities and aim to achieve the highest possible opportunities for all. The charity encourages employees and volunteers from all walks of life and different cultures. It does this as it is felt that with the client group served, the support team needs to reflect the needs of its service users.
Working at the Skills Development Centre training for its staff/support team is highly encouraged. Besides the joy of working with people with (dis)abilities, the charity continues to invest in its innovative service and actively motivates all team members to bring forward new ideas. Being an independent charity, this allows for a quick response to the ever changing needs of its service-users.
The Skills Development Centre also actively encourages a better understanding of disability awareness. Besides extensive community participation for it's service-users, the charity welcomes work and study experience students from all over London and beyond.
Work & Study Experience
The Skills Development Centre welcomes any student to join us for a work or study experience that they won't forget. Placements are requested for many reasons and the charity prides itself on an excellent team of mentors who enjoy working with people of all ages, studies and interest. Throughout the year the charity takes on in excess of twenty students from different schools, colleges & universities.
There are many areas within the Skills Development Centre in which we can assist in obtaining specific experience. Many students use their experience to find out about careers in care/ disability field, specialised research for degrees or essays, equal opportunities or as part of a placement for full time studies.
Many students keep in contact long after their placement is finished. Often firm friendships are made between students, service-users, staff and volunteers. As a result, previous students have joined the charity on client fun days, socials and holidays. The Skills Development Centre views this in a very positive light and highly appreciates the assistance given by them.
The Skills Development Centre has also been extremely lucky to have met and offered placements to people who may have been undecided on their career path or not who may not have worked for some time. In many of these cases the charity has been able to assist in building the confidence of those individuals and encourage further training, a career change or re-employment.
If you would like to find out more about what we as a community have to offer prospective students,
please do not hesitate to contact Naheed or Jenny (you will find our contact details on the contact page of this website). For those of you that are considering a career change, please look in our 'jobs' section on this website for voluntary positions.

CMSS Events
Christmas Bazaar 29th November 2008
We would like to say a big thank you for everyone who helped us in this fundraising event. The Christams Bazaar was a great success.
There were lots of stalls selling gifts, cards and wrapping paper, hand knitted items, home made cakes and lovely hot food on the day.
We held a raffle, auction and various other games where you could win a prize.
The day raised £2671.00 after deductions, this will all go towards our clients holidays and along with all other monies raised during 2008 will pay for transport, transfers, specialised equipment, general care and anything else that is needed to make our clients have an enjoyable holiday. The money also goes on providing social events throughout the year for our clients.
In 2008 some of the holidays and socials are listed below, these were very popular and i am already being asked where the holidays and socials will be for 2009....watch this space.
Majorca, Disneyland Paris, butlins, copenhagen etc...
disco, theatre, meal out, bowling etc...
Once again thank you to everyone who donated gifts, vouchers, bottles and anything else, also thanks to all of you who gave up their time to help either beforehand, on the day or afterwards.
