The Community based Project: CMSS Pilot Project September 2007
Overview
This pilot project is managed by CMSS Skills Development Centre. The project is based in the Wembley, Brent area and provides daytime support services to adults who have physical disabilities or learning difficulties. Launched this year 2007, the community based project will provide 10 people with the various support needs to participate in the meaningful daytime activities in their own community, close to home.
The Mission
All people involved in the project will have one united vision that believes:
Our mission is to provide the long or short term support to enable people with disabilities to live in their own community as a valued member, to use their skills in meaningful ways, to make informed choices about their lives and to build relationships in their community. By working co-operatively with family, friends, local resources and other services, it is our goal to assist people with disabilities in enjoying rich and valued lives.
Services Available
The service is designed to be flexible and respond to the needs of each person involved in the project. Each individual will have a structured day on everyday they participate in the service. The following community activities are available, as are many more:
The project was launched on 10th September 2007 and is being Coordinated by Naheed Judge and ran by three Community Field Workers. The clients and staff have been working together since August and have settled well into there new base and are enjoying finding out what's available in their local community as well as accessing college courses, the gym, shopping skills, swimming and many more fun activities.
The Project is very much person centred towards the individual's care needs and their wants, needs and aspirations for the future. A typical timetable for a client who attends the project three days a week would look similar to this:

Christmas Bazaar 29th November 2008
We would like to say a big thank you for everyone who helped us in this fundraising event. The Christams Bazaar was a great success.
There were lots of stalls selling gifts, cards and wrapping paper, hand knitted items, home made cakes and lovely hot food on the day.
We held a raffle, auction and various other games where you could win a prize.
The day raised £2671.00 after deductions, this will all go towards our clients holidays and along with all other monies raised during 2008 will pay for transport, transfers, specialised equipment, general care and anything else that is needed to make our clients have an enjoyable holiday. The money also goes on providing social events throughout the year for our clients.
In 2008 some of the holidays and socials are listed below, these were very popular and i am already being asked where the holidays and socials will be for 2009....watch this space.
Majorca, Disneyland Paris, butlins, copenhagen etc...
disco, theatre, meal out, bowling etc...
Once again thank you to everyone who donated gifts, vouchers, bottles and anything else, also thanks to all of you who gave up their time to help either beforehand, on the day or afterwards.
