What to do if you are interested in a placement at the Skills Development Centre

You may ring the Skills Development Centre to arrange an informal visit. You will find our phone number on the contact page of this website. We will make you an appointment and you will be shown around the centre by one of the Clients. This visit will take about an hour.

Once you have seen the Centre and would like to apply for a placement you will be asked to fill in an application form. Referrals can be made through your Social Worker (you will need to contact your Social Worker to get funding for an assessment approved) or privately, in which case you will cover the cost of the assessment. If you wish to fund your placement through Direct Payments we will be more than happy to assist you in the process.

Once we have received your application form and the funding for your assessment is approved, CMSS will make an appointment for a 2 day assessment.

During the 2 day assessment you will be given a full timetable of activities and the staff will focus on your abilities. They will then write an assessment and all the individual recommendations make up the final assessment report. Existing clients at The Skills Development Centre will also have an input in your assessment report and they cover your hobbies, interests and social abilities. Based on this report the Skills Development Centre will decide whether we can offer you a person-centred service.

Once we offer you a placement we need to establish whether funding is available for your placement. The fee for attending the Skills Development Centre is a standard daily fee that includes a cooked lunch and refreshments in the morning and afternoon. If you live very far, there maybe an additional transport fee or if you require learning, one to one or dietary support there may also be an extra fee. Do not worry too much about this as we will talk to you about all of this.

Once the funding, is confirmed the Skills Development Centre will contact you with a starting date.

Please note the Skills Development Centre has a waiting list for placements and that the Centre offers services in order of that waiting list. You may ring the centre at all opening times to find out when you are on the waiting list.

Christmas Bazaar 29th November 2008

We would like to say a big thank you for everyone who helped us in this fundraising event. The Christams Bazaar was a great success.

There were lots of stalls selling gifts, cards and wrapping paper, hand knitted items, home made cakes and lovely hot food on the day.

We held a raffle, auction and various other games where you could win a prize.

The day raised £2671.00 after deductions, this will all go towards our clients holidays and along with all other monies raised during 2008 will pay for transport, transfers, specialised equipment, general care and anything else that is needed to make our clients have an enjoyable holiday. The money also goes on providing social events throughout the year for our clients.

In 2008 some of the holidays and socials are listed below, these were very popular and i am already being asked where the holidays and socials will be for 2009....watch this space.

Majorca, Disneyland Paris, butlins, copenhagen etc...

disco, theatre, meal out, bowling etc...

Once again thank you to everyone who donated gifts, vouchers, bottles and anything else, also thanks to all of you who gave up their time to help either beforehand, on the day or afterwards.
